Blade and Soul is my favorite MMORPG so far I have clocked in over 1k hours on this game but other than the normal problems MMORPG face this one has a major issue that makes most people drop it and that issue is that it is badly optimized. Fear not my potato PC amigos for I will make a guide to help gamers who cannot afford the all might Nvidia GTX 1080.
1. BNS buddy
First you will need a handy program made by Endless called BNSbuddy (just click the blue text I linked it fam). The program is easy to install and safe (been using it for a year now and so far so good). I should however give you you a warning that even though I have had no problems with the software using a third party software to edit or manipulate BnS goes against its terms and service and you can get banned YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
2. Things you can toggle to optimize Bns
Ok so BNS buddy has had a lot of things added to it as it kept getting updated and depending on the version you are using the "launcher" tab might not be visible as soon as you launch the software. No problem my dude you need to click on the next button and you should find the launch tab.
Now that we are on the "Launcher" section of the software enable the three launch options on the right side. Enable "Unattended", "No texture streaming" and "Use all cores"
. Unattended - Allows you to skip the startup dialog, basically you can start the game and go grab a drink cause the game will auto skip all the unnecessary stuff while booting up. (I might be wrong this is what I have seen from this option)
. No Texture Streaming - This here my budda forces the game to load every texture needed in the dungeon/area in one go so the game does not need to keep loading random textures in the middle of the raid or dungeon, this reduces random stutters/ FPS drops.
. Use All Cores - Tells the game to use all cores to run the game. As shocking as it is people at NCsoft where like "yeah yeah also force the game to use only one core lol they gonna love dat shit", this has a great FPS boost to the game cause its getting a lot more power to run the game from the other cores that where not being used.
Also right at the bottom there is a slider called "Fix Loading Screen" for me this has no impact in loading time or loading in general but if your game crashes during loading or has slow loading enable this it should help with the crashing.

3. We are going to edit a few code lines my budda
Warning; If you do something wrong and somehow mess up a few lines or delete them the game can get messed up but you can always just re download. (follow me step by step and you should be fine)
Also I saw this guide on BNS Academy I cannot find the link anymore but I saw the guide quite a while ago and i give all credit to site for this guide.

Anyway ....
So the NCsoft sat down and was like "Hey we should add an optimized mode for the game but keep it disabled, yeah yeahhh they gonna love dat shit".
The game does have an optimized mode that helps you gain a little bit more performance and for me it reduced lag in towns and raids, buuuut we are dealing with NCsoft here so we are going to have to enable that helpful feature ourselves by editing a code line NCsoft is busy counting money right now.
1. In BNSbuddy Click on "Dat Editor" on the tabs
1. In BNSbuddy Click on "Dat Editor" on the tabs
2. You will find a drop down tab on the left side of the editor
3. Click the drop down tab, you will see 4 .dat files the ones we need are xml.dat and xml64.dat. Click on xml.dat if you run the game on 32bit or xml64.dat if you run the game on 64bit.
4. Once you have made your selection on either 32 or 64 bit you need to click "Decompile", This part takes a while so just find something to do for a few.
5. Once decompiled you will see a lot of Data on the drop down section this time click "client.config2.xml".
6. Once you are in "client.config2.xml" press Ctrl+F to bring up the search tool then search for the word "Optimal".
6. This is the line of code we need to change
<option name=”use-optimal-performance-mode-option” value=”false” />
You need to change the End of the code that reads as
Value= "false" you need to replace the "False" with the word "true".
Value= "false" you need to replace the "False" with the word "true".
The code line should now look like this
7. Now that you are done hit save
8. Once saved hit compile and just like the decomplie it might take a while so listen to some despacito while you wait.
9. Once done compiling hit "Apply". Once applied you will see "Patched xml64.dat" pop up.
10. The hard part is done now, just launch the game. You can click on "client bitness" drop down to pick 32bit or 64bit. TIP: 64Bit is less likely to crash randomly but 32bit loads faster has less less lag and shatters on low end machines but more crashes due to memory leak.
Go back to the launch tab and there you can pick the language and server which you like.

11. You will have to put in your log in name and password for BnS (at your own risk, but like I said I have been using this software for a while and so far so good).
12. Once the game has loaded up go into the settings
When you are in the settings go to "Graphics" then "Advanced graphics" and you should see "Optimized mode" there simply enable it and restart the game.
Note:
If you launch the game with the default launcher it will patch this edit so it one way to get rid of this edit. Also if the game is updated you need to launch the game through its original launcher and re-aply the edit one updated.

You are DONE!!
