Ever tried playing one of these games???
On a PC like this???
And ended up getting this.
Well don't get angry and toss your PC out of the Window Just yet. Just because the new generation of games is among us does not mean that we can give up on our old rigs, A few tweaks here and there will give you that extra FPS boost needed for stable game play.
1. update them drivers bro
Running games on a outdated driver is a no-go if you want to get best performance on a game. Updating your drivers isn't hard these days, some computers even notify you when your driver has a update. Updating all drivers is a good idea but for gaming your graphics card should always be up to date. If by any chance you missed the update notification manually check and update your drivers from the control panel.
Enter your control panel > system security > windows update
Look around the updates, Your graphics card driver update might just be there.
If your PC does not notify you when Driver updates are available then you will have to go to the drivers specific website and download the driver update from there. First, find out which graphics card you have, and also check which version of Windows your PC is running. Head to Device Manager in the Control Panel and click on Display adapters. You'll see the name of your graphics card.

To find out the specific version of Windows, right-click on My Computer and choose Properties (or click on System in the Control Panel). This will tell you whether you have the 32- or 64-bit, as well as exactly which version of Windows is installed. For other games like "Titanfall" you might need beta drivers which are specifically made to run certain games, these drivers tend to be risky so i advise you read the comments first or research the beta driver before downloading them and installing them.
Games should have a 20-30% boost with the new drivers installed. While your at it, update all drivers and update windows as well, a faster running windows means smoother game play as well. Unless you disabled the feature of windows auto-update then i suggest you update your OS.
2. optimize game settings
You cant play the game maxed out, deal with it. Sometimes you need to drop the graphics, drop the resolution, drop the fancy explosion effects, you don't need the game to look like Mona Lisa to enjoy it.
Anti-aliasing should be off, or at the lowest for FPS increase. AA smoothes out jagged lines, but incurs a performance penalty, disable AA altogether and run the game if the game runs well increase it little by little till it is stable while looking good. Do the same for other settings as well especially Shadows, having Shadows at its lowest or completely off will give a large boost. Don't forget the light effects and special effects. The game might not look as good as it did in the trailer but at least you’re playing it.
3. OVERCLOCK! OVERCLOCK! OVERCLOCK!
This is an option that is pretty dangerous if you don't know what you’re doing, in fact if you don't know computers at all and you’re not ready to risk your PC then just skip this advice. Overclocking basically pushes your GPU, or CPU or RAM (depends on what your overclocking) beyond its set limit to make it run faster.
Overclocking the Graphics cards is the best option for gaming; a good graphics card has a major impact on games. You may find an option to overclock the GPU in the driver itself (launch the interface from the relevant icon in Windows' Notification area). Alternatively, you might need to track down third-party software.
Overclocking the CPU or RAM is much simpler, they are many software's available that help overclock the CPU, its best that you research on what is best for your PC. Some computers allow CPU and RAM overclocking via BIOS. Simply reboot, press Delete (or whichever key takes you to the BIOS) and look for the performance settings.

4. Game boosters
Do you know how much useless junk is running in the background?? They can be 20 to 30 software's that are running the same time you are trying to run the game and they are just eating your CPU speed and RAM, all that RAM and CPU power wasted. You can go to the Task manager and turn them off but that's too much of a hustle. What you need is a optimization software, specifically one for gaming, I prefer Razer game booster but they are many other game boosters out there that you can try.
5. look around your graphics card settings
Look around The Graphics cards settings. Go to the desktop > Right click > graphics properties
Then poke around here and there to make sure Your Card is set for best performance
Hint* If your Using Intel Graphics, head to 3D settings and make sure the bar is set from "Quality" to "Performance".
